Broccoli Garden Seeds
Broccoli is a cool weather crop growing best between the daytime temperatures of 50 and 70 degrees F. Broccoli will tolerate temperatures down into the 20’s but will bolt and go to flower when temperatures reach the 80’s. Broccoli is most often started from seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before transplanting your broccoli plants outside. Heirloom organic broccoli will grow well in reasonably fertile, well-drained, moist soils with plenty of added organic matter. We add lots of rabbit manure or some well-composted chicken manure. A mulch will help keep the ground cool and moist. The pH should be between 6.0 and 7.0 for optimum growth. A pH within this range will discourage clubroot disease and maximize nutrient availability. If you have blended or mulched a nice manure in, you should be fine. Don't forget when transplanting to add a little bone and blood meal to each hole. A teaspoon of each will get your transplants off to a good start!
