If you were stuck on an island and you could only choose one type, would it be the hard-shelled, long-storing, sweet winter squash or the tender-skinned, sliced fresh-from-the-garden summer squash? Tough choice. Hopefully you have plenty of room for growing both varieties. You’ll want plenty of room between seed plantings because they will cross-pollinate and you’ll get something in the middle and it won’t be as pleasant as spring or fall. Our winter squash seed collection is heavy on the heirloom seed varieties, a selection your grandparents would be familiar with, while our summer lineup offers quite a few newer hybrids to the classic older favorites.
