Yard Long Bean - Dark Green. Heirloom, Vigna unguiculata subsp sesquipedalis. Warm season annual. 70 days. Non-GMO. Open pollinated. This variety produces long, dark green, slender, round stringless pods that grow 18-20" long. The beans are reddish-brown. This strong, easy to grow plant needs a warm climate to thrive and will reward you with high yields. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. ~ 180 seeds / oz.
Sow seeds in late spring/summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Train to climb a vertical support. Harvest beans when 18-20" long. The pod should still be smooth, tender and about the diameter of a pencil. This type of bean is used in the popular Szechwan dish Dry Fried Beans. They are very crisp, tender and delicious. Try in recipes that use snap beans. Prepare by cutting into 2" sections.
