Abelmoschus esculentus (80 days) Developed at Clemson University by Leon Robbins. Wow, magenta stems hold emerald green leaves that are the backdrop for intense purple pods, born from canary yellow flowers with amber throats. Approx. 420 Seeds per ounce.
You can grow this okra alone for the hibiscus-like flowers not to mention the tasty purple pods are 5-8". The bushy okra grows 3-4' tall. These pods don't turn woody as quickly as other varieties. Red Burgundy okra is reported to do well in "cooler" areas. However remember okra is from Africa and LOVES hot weather. Do not plant this out too early or it will do little till the day time temps reach 80F.
