58 Days to maturity. Raphanus sativus. White Cannon Radish Hybrid Seeds. Cool/Warm Season Annual. While it may not seem as exciting as some other varieties, this hybrid daikon radish focuses on the basics: great flavor, excellent weather tolerance, and lovely color. White Cannon radishes are great for subtropical climates and are incredibly tolerant to both cold and hot weather. Their bright white skin and pale green necks make them easy on the eyes, too. If you want a no-nonsense delicious daikon radish for your garden this year, White Cannon is the way to go! ~ 1,300 seeds / oz.
Prepare the soil in a sunny area. Work the soil as deeply as possible with a shovel or gardening fork to give the roots room to grow, and amend the soil with sand or organic matter as needed. Sow ten seeds per foot, 1/2" deep, in rows 12 to 18 inches apart. Thin seedlings 4 to 6 inches apart after germination. Keep soil consistently moist for the best flavor and texture.
Harvesting White Cannon Radishes
White Cannon radishes should be harvested after approximately 58 days. Pull the radishes by grasping them firmly at the base of the plant. Alternatively, dig up with a gardening fork if your soil is not loose enough.
Daikon radishes can be stored for a long time! Cut the tops off promptly after harvest, and keep them in the vegetable drawer of your fridge. The radish tops can be kept there as well.
Daikon radishes add a spicy, fresh bite to any dish. Try grating finely and using as a garnish for noodles, soup, or tempura. You can also slice thinly and pickle these radishes for a great snack!
Tips From Our Gardeners
"Having trouble with pests infesting your radishes? I suggest using a floating row cover! These are made of plastic or polyester and can be moved freely. They’ll shield your plants from those pesky bugs and keep your radishes safe all season long!"
- Katie Robinson, True Leaf Market Writer and Horticulture Student
Soil in the 5.8-6.8 pH range that is fertile and has been deeply worked.
Pests and Disease:
Cabbage loopers, harlequin bugs, and root maggots are the primary pests that cause significant damage. Radishes are fairly resistant to diseases; however, they should not be planted in locations where other Brassicas have grown recently. This variety is resistant to viruses and some fungi.
