60 days to maturity. Raphanus sativus. Shin Dong Ha Korean Hybrid Radish Seeds. Hybrid, warm to mild season annual. Korean radishes are similar in flavor and texture to daikon, so if that’s something you enjoy, try Shin Dong Ha radishes! They are a beautiful white radish with a mild flavor. This variety grows very quickly, and can get as big as two to three pounds! As a bonus, they have great bacterial soft rot resistance and can be stored for a long time. Try this oval-shaped radish variety today, and you won’t regret it! ~ 7,100 seeds / oz.
Prepare your planting area by loosening the soil deep enough for roots to grow. Choose a location with well-draining soil and full sun where you can direct sow your seeds mid-summer to early fall. Keep soil moist, watch for pests, and provide fertilizer as needed.
Harvesting Korean Radishes
Korean radishes can be harvested similarly to daikon or normal radishes. Grasp the plant firmly at the base and pull upwards. If you have difficulty with this method, try using a spade or hoe. The tops of these radishes are also edible, so try saving them when you harvest your radishes. Use them in a variety of different recipes and prevent some waste!
Korean radishes make excellent kimchee! You can also pickle them to make a great garnish or side dish. Slice them thinly as a crisp topping for soups or salads. Be sure to save the tops! They can be braised, boiled, or used in many other ways. An interesting recipe is masaengchae, a spicy radish salad. To make it, thinly slice your radish and mix with fish sauce, scallions, garlic, and red pepper flakes.
Loosened, sandy soil that is well-drained and fertile. Prefers a pH of 5.8-6.8.
Pests and Disease:
Korean radishes can be a target for flea beetles, harlequin beetles, aphids, and cutworms. If you notice holes in the leaves, contact your local extension office for treatment information. Root rot can occur. This disease can damage your radishes, so be sure to use clean irrigation water.
