How to Grow Fall Storage Korean Radishes

Prepare your planting area by loosening soil as deep as possible. Choose a location with full sun. Sow seeds and thin seedlings six to eight inches apart. Fertilize as needed. Keep soil appropriately moist and monitor plants for signs of disease or damage.

Harvesting Korean Radishes

Korean radishes are harvested much like any other radish. Once the top of the root begins to show above the soil, harvest it by gripping the plant at the base and pulling firmly. Be sure to pull straight up. If needed, loosen the soil around the root before pulling. Once you have harvested your radishes, be sure to prepare some of them for long-term storage. As long as they are properly stored in a cool, dry place as recommended, they can last a long time!

Culinary Tips

Korean radishes are known for having less “bite” than many American varieties, so use them anywhere you’d like a milder flavor. Many traditional Korean dishes use radishes, recipes for them can be found online. Radishes are often used in kimchee or pickled as tsukemono. Pickled radishes are a great garnish or sandwich topping! You can also use Korean radishes in salads or as a snack.
