60 to 65 days to maturity. Raphanus sativus. Cheong Du Korean Radish Seeds. Hybrid, cool season annual. Cheong Du radishes are a common, popular variety in Korea. Their name means “green head”, which is quite literal: the roots have green shoulders! They are also quite flavorful and have crisp, well-textured flesh. It’s easy to see why they’re popular! They grow to be eight to ten inches long and weigh around two to three pounds. This is a great variety if you want to try growing Korean radishes. Approximately 4,500 seeds / oz.
Find a sunny location with good soil, and use a shovel or hoe to loosen soil as deep as possible to help radishes grow straight. Plant seeds beginning in late summer until early fall. Water as needed and fertilize as recommended. Untreated seed available.
Harvesting Cheong Du Korean Radishes
Harvesting radishes is a simple process. Once your plants are mature, grab the stems as close to the ground as possible and pull. The roots should come free from the dirt without too much difficulty. Avoid pulling at an angle to help keep plants from breaking.
If your radish tops break off or if the roots won’t come free, loosen the soil around the plants with a shovel or dig up completely.
Some basic (but tasty!) ways to use Korean radishes include sandwiches, salads, or garnishes. If you want to be a little more creative, try pickling them! They can be used the same way and add an acidic brightness. Radishes are also great for kimchee. Need some more ideas? Look up traditional Korean recipes online!
