65 to 80 days to maturity. Raphanus sativus. Big Time Korean Radish Hybrid Seeds. Hybrid, cool season annual. Big Time Korean radishes, unlike other Korean radishes, are a spring season radish that can be planted early in the season. They have deep green shoulders that fade into bright white roots. These mild, delicious radishes grow up to eight inches long and three inches in diameter, and every bite is perfectly crisp. Big Time radishes are easy to grow, too–they are resistant to bolting and have a great heat tolerance! Approximately 6,000 seeds / oz.
Prepare an area with full sun and fertile, well-draining soil, loosening soil as deep as possible. Plant seeds in bands 18 to 24 inches apart, thin your seedlings to 6 inches apart. As plants grow, keep moist and free of weeds.
Harvesting Korean Radishes
Korean radishes can be harvested once the shoulders of the roots begin to show above the soil. Grip the base of the plant firmly and pull directly upwards. Save the leaves–they’re edible and delicious! If your plants keep breaking before you can pull the roots, try digging them up with a shovel or loosening the soil around it. Don’t wait too long to harvest them; their flavor is best if you harvest early. Note: Big Time radish seeds are only available as thiram treated seeds.
Korean radishes are used in a variety of Asian dishes. Try making kimchi with an online recipe! You can also pickle Korean radishes to make a great garnish. Alternatively, use Big Time radishes wherever you would normally use radishes for a milder flavor.
Tips From Our Gardeners
"Korean radishes are a great choice if you want to change up your garden! They’re easy to grow and taste great. Be sure to loosen your soil before you plant so your radishes can grow to their full size!"
Well-draining and fertile soil with a pH of 5.6-7.5.
Pests and Disease:
General diseases like damping off and root rot can occur if watering is done incorrectly. Be sure to space plants properly to prevent the spread of other diseases. As for pests, leaf beetles, aphids, and cabbage maggots can all be issues. Treat as needed as part of an integrated pest management strategy.
