Quinoa seeds were a staple food source in South America for 6000 years. Quinoa is a pseudo grain, in that it is not a grass like most grains. Quinoa is an excellent source of vitamins and essential amino acids, containing no gluten. Quinoa makes a great breakfast cereal alone or can be added to oatmeal.
Quinoa seeds are not a traditional sprout like alfalfa, needing only to be soaked for about half an hour and grown for only about a day and a half. This makes more of a "swell" than a "sprout". For the best taste and texture, only sprout for about a day and half before eating. A longer growth period will make the sprouts much softer. Note: Don't soak Red Quinoa very long if sprouting. We recommend only soaking for around an hour. Oversoaking quinoa seeds will make them sprout very poorly, if at all.
