Lavender thrives in many climates and gardens and, whether growing the French, Spanish, Egyptian, or English varieties, is one of the easiest and most rewarding crops to maintain once established. Lavender is a cool-weather favorite best if started indoors 10-12 weeks prior to final frost. Lavender has a slower germination period of 14-28 days. Plant 2-3 seeds .25 inches deep per cell or container, transplanting seedlings into the garden in average, loose, well-drained soil in full sun once true leaves establish. Lavender can be difficult to begin from seed but, once rooted, is a low-maintenance perennial. An ideal herb for container and patio gardening. Avoid over watering, as lavender is a semi-arid perennial susceptible to leaf spots and root rot.
