Non-GMO, Heirloom Florence Fennel Herb Garden Seed from True Leaf Market. Foeniculum vulgare var. azuricum. Florence Fennel is a cool perennial that"s often grown as an annual. Native to the Mediterranean, Bulbing fennel is technically a vegetable, but included as an herb due to its medicinal benefits. Harvested for its white bulb, this variety shouldn't be confused with its sweet fennel relative. With fresh licorice flavor, Florence Fennel is used in Italian cuisine and grown as a microgreen!
Non-GMO (Foeniculum vulgare var. azuricum) Florence Fennel plants grow as cool bulbing heirloom fennel. As technically a vegetable that can be grown as perennials, this stocky annual variety grows upright with green shoots reaching 2-3" tall. Once your fennel reaches maturity in either late spring or summer, your plants will develop its white bulb near the base. Florence Fennel provides licorice flavor and produces light-green fern-like foliage on top of its stalks. This vegetable fennel can also be planted in mild climates during late summer to mature in the fall.
