Canada Seed Analysis Certificate
If you are ordering product with a delivery address in Canada, you may need one or more Seed Analysis Certificates to accompany your order in order to clear customs. Typically orders containing small amounts of seed do not require a certificate. Orders containing large quantities of seed do require a certificate for each seed variety in large amounts. Please review the requirements before placing an order destined for Canada. Please note: seed analysis certificates can sometimes take up to 4 weeks to obtain and are outside of our control.
Canada Seed Analysis Certificate
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) requires a Seed Analysis Certificate (SAC) on some imports. A Seed Analysis Certificate must "provide sufficient information on purity and germination to verify that the seed lot meets the minimum standards for importation." As a standard practice, we do not maintain purity test records for all our seed lots. We do maintain germination test results on all our seed lots, not all tests are done at "a laboratory operated by or under the authority of a national or state government" as required by the CFIA.
So to comply with the CFIA requirements we are required to send the seed lot to a government lab for testing purity and germination. This can take up to 3 weeks to receive the certification. As such all orders including a SAC will be delayed until the SAC is received by the issuing agency. Seed Analysis Certificates are issued by the UDAF (Utah Department of Agriculture and Food) and meet CIFA requirements for importation.
Please Note: While many countries require a Phytosanitary Certificate for the importation of seeds, Canada only requires a phyto certificate for grain seeds.
