Greencrop. Bush Bean. Phaseolus vulgaris. 60 days. Annual. Non-GMO. Open pollinated. Greencrop bush bean debuted as the 1957 All-American Selections Vegetable Winner for its 8 inch long bean pods all coming from a bush plant. Although Greencrop matures at about 18-24 inches tall, it produces with the vigor of a much larger pole bean. Germinating in just under a week, Greencrop bush bean is ready to harvest in as soon as 50-60 days and is an ideal introductory crop for children and beginners. Unlike the prolific and vining pole bean, bush bean matures at about 18-24 inches tall and does not require trellis and support. 90 seeds/oz.
Bush bean colors are varied and feature pods in red, black, purple, white, and yellow. Greencrop bush beans can be started indoors or best if sown directly after final spring frost. Plant 1-2 seeds per 1 inch deep and 4-6 inch between plants in well-tilled, Organically rich soil with pH of 6.0-6.8. Beans require consistent watering but, when doing so, water as close to the root as possible to avoid saturation known to cause root rot and mildew. Thin plants back to every 18-24 inches apart as true leaves establish.
