Growing Non-GMO Aster Benarys Trimix Flower Seeds

Aster seeds can be directly sown or started indoors for earlier blooms. No matter what, remember that aster seeds need light to germinate and should not be covered up by any type of growing medium. Plant in the spring or fall in southern climates or in the spring or summertime in cooler growing zones. The plants just need enough time to establish their roots before extremes of hot or cold set in. Start indoors and then transplant outdoors for a longer growing season.

These wonderful perennials will come back year after year and wow you with blooms! They will have the most flowers in full sun but can survive in part shade. Keep the plants well-watered, especially in times of drought. The stressed plant will not flower as heavily later in the season. They rarely need to be fertilized or composted more than once per year in the spring.

Harvesting Benarys Trimix Asters

This variety of asters are exceptional at cut flower production. When they are in full bloom, or just before, snip off the stem 10-12” down or at the next closest branch. Be sure to use sharp scissors to prevent damaging the stock plant.

About Benarys Trimix Aster Garden Seeds

There is no need to prune these aster plants! For a more compact look, pinch off the tops of the plant in June. They do benefit from deadheading in the late fall if you don’t want them to re-seed (spread). It is optional to completely cut back the flowers at the very end of each growing season.

Asters are a huge attractant for native pollinators. Therefore, they are ideal for pollinator-focused gardens; Expect to see butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and more!

The name ‘Aster’ is actually a very general term that can include any flowering plant in the family . Mums, sunflowers, and daisies are all in this family.

Expect multiple weeks of overlapping blooms all throughout the summertime and into early fall!

To propagate Asters it is best to divide and transplant them at the end of the season. This will reduce the size of any overgrown plants but also make great gifts for friends! It is typically recommended to divide your asters every 3 to 4 years as a rule of thumb.
