The weather is warming up, and it is time to start working in the garden and flower beds. If you are a crafty person or have kids who enjoy crafts, this is the perfect time to step away from the TV and get your hands busy with something to spruce your gardens up.
Personally, I love to paint both on canvas and anything else it will stick to. As a kid, I would paint people into those terracotta pots people never seem to like using. Today I have a classy painting idea for your flower beds or vegetable gardens. Turn those terracotta pots into a lighthouse that you and your tiny hand helpers can make.
Garden Pot Lighthouse
Step 1: Select a series of pots that allow for a portion of the pot's side to be displayed when they are turned with the bottom face up and stacked. This will form the layers of your lighthouse. You will need at least three pots of differing sizes that work together. Add more pots to increase their height.
Step 2: Select your paint. An outdoor weather-resistant acrylic paint is ideal as it will wash off your hand just fine while withstanding the outdoor climate through the summer and fall.
Step 3: Paint each pot, keeping in mind the order in which the pots will be stacked on top of each other. For example, you will want to paint the base pot with a door, windows, window boxes, etc.
Step 4: Seal your paint with a spray or brush-on sealant. You can find these available near the craft paint aisle of your local grocery or craft stores.
Step 5: Assemble your lighthouse in the place you want to display it. For more stability, glue the pots together to prevent accidental damage.
