Q - Why such a huge discount?
A - All these seeds are packed for 2019, and we cannot legally sell them after December 31st, 2019. We could de-pack these seeds, re-test them for quality and germination and re-pack them if they test to our high standards. Sometimes we do this if the quantities justify it, but in this case, the surplus is not big enough to justify that. So, we would rather you have the option to purchase them at a deep discount.
Q – How well will these seeds germinate?
A - Germination rates for garden seeds do decline over time. If seeds packed for 2019 are planted in 2019, you should expect extremely high germination rates from our seeds. If 2019 seeds are held and planted in 2020, the germination rate could decline slightly on some of the varieties, but these seeds would still have very high germination rates. If these seeds are held for a third year, then the germination rates for some varieties could begin to decline steeply. Think about it another way... If planted in 2019, these seeds would be A+ Grade. If planted in 2020, many varieties would still be A+, while other varieties would be B+ to A Grade. So, we feel confident that the quality of the seeds is good, and most home gardeners would not notice the difference. However... we want to make sure you are aware of the issues before purchasing year end remnant seeds.
Q - How can I ensure that my garden will be full in the spring?
A - We recommend starting your seeds indoors or in a greenhouse, then transplanting into your garden (instead of sowing directly in the ground). This way you can over-plant if needed to ensure that you have more than enough germinated seedlings to fill your garden as you would want.
