1. Boston Pickling Cucumber Seeds
The Boston Pickling cucumber is an American heirloom first marketed in 1877 by the pioneering Detroit-based seed company, D.M. Ferry & Co. Boston Pickling is a rapidly producing summer favorite and, since this variety is mature in about 56-63 days, be prepared for season-long harvests well into the end of summer. The Boston Pickling is vining cucumber that thrives from early trellis support and daily harvesting to help promote more vigorous fruiting. Produces bright green 3" fruits with dark spines and a much smoother skin than other pickling cucumbers. Very high yields!
2. Homemade Pickles Cucumber Seeds
One of the easiest crops you'll ever grow, Homemade Pickles cucumber seeds are quick to mature in about 63-70 days and will keep on producing all summer long. Ideally harvest fruits when they are about 5-6" long because they will begin to turn starchy and lose flavor if left in the garden to grow. Harvest daily and often to promote heavy fruiting. Homemade Pickles do not have the sharp and bumpy ridges of some cucumbers, making them ideal for either slicnig or pickling. A vining variety that benefits from early trellis and support.
3. National Pickling Cucumber Seeds
The National Pickling is a vining gherkin-style cucumber that produces small and delicious cucumbers specifically grown for canning or pickling. Grown for its smaller bush-like fruits, the National Pickling is quickly vining crop known for its heavy yields as soo as 49-56 days. The National Pickling cucumber is not necessarily a slicing variety and should be harvest when about 4-5" long for optimal flavor and ability to can the fruit whole. Very similar to Boston Pickling cucumber in terms of size, flavor, and productivity.
4. Wisconsin SMR-58 Cucumber Seeds
A superior pickling cucumber for growers in northern climates, the Wisconsin SMR-58 was bred and developed in 1958 by the University of Wisconsin to cater to gardens with shorter growing days. The Wisconsin SMR-58 is a heavily producing vine cucumber and should be harvest daily to keep fruits from growing more than 2.5-5" long. While some slicing cucumbers are best when closer to 8-9", pickling varities should be picked when about half that size to keep from losing flavor and becoming too starchy. Has medium-sized bumps and ridges on the skin, typical of most pickling types.
5. Mammoth Dill Herb Seeds
Dill is one of the easiest herbs to grow as it has a high tolerance to just about anything in the garden including heat, drought, and poor soils. Quick to mature and ready to pick about the same as your earliest cucumber harvest, dill establishes itself early and will reseed itself in the garden bed for as long as you'll have it around. Even just a half dozen plants in the garden will leave your entire yard smelling of the sweet and savory fragrance of dill. Try growing dill in the herb garden or as a companion plant throughout the yard to help ward off pests with its pungent aromatics. Matures in about 63-70 days.
