Non-GMO, Open-pollinated, Heirloom, Organic Black Krim Tomato Seeds from True Leaf Market. Solanum lycopersicum. The first "black" tomato to become widely available in the United States in 1990. Black Krim hails from Crimea, a peninsula in the Black Sea. These fruits are flattened, globe-shaped and grow to 8 to 12 ounces. They are a deep reddish, purple color with delicate skin and a light green shoulder with full flavor. Black Krim tomatoes are very juicy with a slight saltiness that enhances the taste.
In warmer climates and those locations with long summers, Black Krim seeds may be direct seeded. However, in many parts of the country, tomatoes grown from heirloom, Organic Black Krim seeds are transplanted. When doing so, bury this cultivar about two-thirds deep. This yields a sturdier transplant because it roots higher up on the stem to gain traction in the soil. These indeterminate plants grow up to several feet tall, so trellising or other support is necessary.
Various Culinary Uses for Black Krim Tomato Seeds:
Tomatoes grown from Black Krim tomato seeds are beefsteaks. Fresh from the garden, they are revered used as slices on sandwiches. They also pair well in salads with other fresh garden produce - their slight saltiness providing a unique flavor experience. Black Krim tomatoes may be cooked, canned, frozen, or dried like any other tomato.
Black Krim Benefits:
Tomatoes of all shapes and varieties are vitamin-rich, delivering the body much needed vitamins B, C, K, and the important potassium. Black Krim tomato seeds yield fruits that contain lycopene, an antioxidant associated with reduced risk of macular degeneration, and prostate and colon cancers. It's also been suggested that vitamin B promotes cell health, eyesight, brain function, and nerve function.
Although the main use of Black Krim seeds is to grow and use the fruit, the oil has been extracted and used in soaps and facial masks.
